Increasing the PHP memory limit on your server

What do I need to do when I receive an error message like "Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 100663296 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 7680 bytes) in..." ?

The message “Fatal error: Allowed memory size…” generally means that your server configuration does not allow your WordPress to use as much memory (RAM) as it requires.

This is not a bug in WP-Lister – it’s simply that depending on which plugins and theme you have activated on your site, you might have to increase the default memory settings on your server.

This might be as simple as changing or adding a single line in a file via FTP – but some hosters require you to contact their support and let them do it for you.

In a nutshell, these are the steps to try - in that order:

1. Try adding this line to your wp-config.php file:
   define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '192M');
2. If you have access to your PHP.ini file, change the line in PHP.ini
   memory_limit = 192M
3. If you don't have access to PHP.ini try adding this to an .htaccess file:
   php_value memory_limit 192M 
4. Talk to your host.
