Setup Wizard Walkthrough for WP-Lister 4.0

Introduction

WP-Lister for eBay 4.0 includes a guided Setup Wizard that helps you connect your eBay account and create your first listing in just a few minutes. This walkthrough covers each step of the wizard so you know exactly what to expect.

Access the wizard: Navigate to eBay → Setup Wizard in your WordPress admin. The wizard also launches automatically for new installations.

Before You Begin

Have these ready:

  • Your eBay seller account credentials
  • At least one WooCommerce product to list
  • Pop-ups enabled for your WordPress site (required for eBay authorization)

Step 1: Welcome

The wizard begins with a welcome screen that explains what you'll accomplish:

  • Connect your eBay seller account
  • Configure basic settings
  • Create your first listing profile
  • Select products to list on eBay

Click Get Started to begin.

Step 2: Connect Your eBay Account

This step authenticates WP-Lister with your eBay seller account.

What you'll do:

  1. Select your eBay site (US, UK, Germany, Australia, etc.)
  2. Choose between Sandbox (testing) or Production (live) mode
  3. Click Connect to eBay
  4. Sign in to eBay when the authorization window opens
  5. Grant WP-Lister permission to manage your listings

Important:

  • Use Production mode unless you're a developer testing. Sandbox mode only works with eBay sandbox accounts (separate from your real seller account).
  • Make sure pop-ups are allowed for your site. If the authorization window doesn't open, check your browser's pop-up blocker.
  • Use a browser where you're not already logged into a different eBay account to avoid authorization confusion.

Once authorized, you'll see a green checkmark confirming the connection. Click Continue to proceed.

Step 3: Business Policies

eBay Business Policies (also called Seller Profiles) define your payment, shipping, and return settings. WP-Lister can automatically load your existing policies.

If you have Business Policies enabled on eBay:

  1. WP-Lister fetches your available policies automatically
  2. Select default policies for Payment, Shipping, and Returns
  3. These become the defaults for your listing profile

If you don't have Business Policies:

  • The wizard will guide you to configure shipping and returns manually
  • You can configure shipping services, handling time, and return policies in the next step

Recommendation: Business Policies make managing multiple listings much easier. Consider enabling them in eBay Seller Hub → Business Policies before continuing. You can always come back to the wizard later.

Step 4: Create Your First Listing Profile

A listing profile contains all the settings that apply to your eBay listings: category, condition, shipping, payment terms, and more.

What you'll configure:

  • Profile Name – Give it a descriptive name (e.g., "Standard Items" or "Electronics")
  • eBay Category – Select the primary category for listings using this profile
  • Item Condition – New, Used, Refurbished, etc.
  • Listing Format – Fixed Price (recommended for most sellers) or Auction
  • Listing Duration – Good 'Til Cancelled (recommended) or fixed-length
  • Price Settings – Use WooCommerce price, add markup, or set custom pricing

Item Specifics Note: Different eBay categories require different item specifics (Brand, Size, Color, etc.). The wizard sets up basic mappings, but you may need to add more specific mappings later in eBay → Profiles → [Your Profile] → Item Specifics.

Tip: You can create additional profiles later for different product types or categories. The wizard helps you create one to start.

Step 5: Select Products

Choose which WooCommerce products to prepare for eBay listing.

Options:

  • Select specific products – Browse your WooCommerce catalog and pick individual items
  • Select by category – Add all products from specific WooCommerce categories
  • Skip for now – Set up products later via eBay → Listings

Recommendation for first-time users: Start with just 1-3 products to test your setup before listing your entire catalog. This helps you catch any configuration issues early.

Selected products are added to WP-Lister's preparation queue with your chosen listing profile applied.

Step 6: Review & Finish

The final step shows a summary of your configuration:

  • Connected eBay account and site
  • Business policies selected
  • Listing profile created
  • Number of products prepared

Click Finish Setup to complete the wizard.

What's Next?

After completing the wizard, you're ready to list on eBay:

  1. Go to eBay → Listings – Your prepared products appear here
  2. Review each listing – Click to edit title, description, price, or images
  3. Verify on eBay – Use the Verify action to check for errors before listing. This catches missing item specifics, invalid GTINs, and other issues.
  4. Fix any errors – Click the error badge to see details and suggested fixes
  5. Publish to eBay – Select products and click List on eBay

Critical: Enable inventory sync immediately! Go to eBay → Settings → Sync and enable stock synchronization to prevent overselling.

Re-Running the Setup Wizard

Need to add another eBay account or revisit the setup? You can access the wizard anytime:

  • Navigate to eBay → Setup Wizard
  • The wizard detects your existing configuration and offers to add accounts or create new profiles

Troubleshooting

Authorization fails or times out:

  • Ensure pop-ups are allowed for your site in your browser settings
  • Try a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari)
  • Clear your browser cache and cookies
  • Check that your eBay account is in good standing
  • If using multiple eBay accounts, log out of eBay first to avoid connecting the wrong account

Business Policies don't appear:

  • Business Policies must be enabled in eBay Seller Hub first
  • After enabling on eBay, return to the wizard or visit eBay → Settings → Accounts and click "Refresh Policies"
  • Note: Some eBay sites or account types may not support Business Policies

Products not showing in selection:

  • Only published WooCommerce products appear
  • Draft and private products are not shown
  • Variable products show the parent product (variations are handled automatically)
