How to Re-Authorize Your eBay Account for New Features

WP-Lister for eBay 4.0 introduces new features that require additional eBay API permissions. Existing users need to re-authorize their eBay account to access these features.

Why Re-Authorization is Needed

The new eBay Catalog API features in version 4.0 require the sell.inventory OAuth scope. This scope wasn't included in earlier versions, so your existing authorization doesn't have permission to use these features.

Your existing listings and sync continue working normally. Re-authorization is only needed for the new Catalog API features.

Features Requiring Re-Authorization

  • GTIN Auto-Search – Automatically search eBay's catalog by UPC, EAN, or ISBN
  • Catalog Product Matching – Find and link to eBay catalog products more easily
  • Category-Filtered Search – Search catalog within specific eBay categories

How to Re-Authorize

Step 1: Go to Account Settings

In your WordPress admin, navigate to eBay → Settings → Accounts

Step 2: Find Your Account

Locate the eBay account you want to re-authorize in the accounts list.

Step 3: Click Reauthorize

Click the Reauthorize link next to your account. A new window will open redirecting you to eBay.

Important: Make sure pop-ups are allowed for your site. If the window doesn't open, check your browser's pop-up blocker settings.

Step 4: Confirm on eBay

On eBay's website:

  1. Sign in to your eBay account if prompted
  2. Review the permissions requested – you'll see the new sell.inventory scope listed
  3. Click Agree to grant the new permissions

Step 5: Return to WordPress

After confirming, you'll be redirected back to your WordPress site. A success message confirms the re-authorization completed.

Verifying Success

To confirm the re-authorization worked:

  1. Go to eBay → Listings
  2. Edit any listing (or create a new one)
  3. Look for the Match to Catalog option or EPID search field
  4. Enter a UPC, EAN, or ISBN
  5. If catalog search results appear, re-authorization was successful

You can also check your account status in eBay → Settings → Accounts – look for a green checkmark or "Connected" status with the current date.

Troubleshooting

Pop-up window won't open

  • Disable your browser's pop-up blocker for your WordPress site
  • Try a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari)
  • Temporarily disable browser extensions that might block pop-ups

Still seeing "Scope not granted" errors?

  • Clear your browser cache completely
  • Log out of eBay in all browser tabs, then try re-authorizing again
  • Make sure you're logged into the correct eBay account
  • Verify you clicked "Agree" (not "Cancel" or closed the window) on eBay

Authorization redirects to wrong site

  • Check your WordPress Site URL in Settings → General
  • If you recently changed domains or use staging, update your site URL first

Multiple eBay accounts?

Each eBay account needs separate re-authorization. Repeat the process for each account listed in eBay → Settings → Accounts.

Tip: Log out of eBay between re-authorizing different accounts to ensure you're granting permissions to the correct account.

What If I Don't Re-Authorize?

WP-Lister continues to work normally for all existing features:

  • Creating and managing listings – works
  • Inventory sync – works
  • Order import – works
  • Templates and profiles – work

You'll only be missing access to the new Catalog API search features. You can re-authorize at any time when you're ready to use these features – there's no deadline or penalty for waiting.
