Things to know about staging sites with WP-Lister for Amazon installed

Staging sites are a great tool, but it is important to make sure that background tasks are disabled on the staging site. When you clone/stage a site with WP-Lister installed, the first thing you should do is set the "Update Interval" setting to "manually".

WP-Lister for Amazon has a staging site option on the developer settings page which does this automatically for you. You can enter a domain pattern and if that pattern is found in the current site URL, then the update interval is set to "manually" automatically.
For example, if you're using WP Engine, then your staging site domain will generally look like mydomain.staging.wpengine.com. So by entering "staging.wpengine.com" as your staging site pattern on your production site, you'll make sure that all background tasks will be disabled automatically in WP-Lister when you stage your site.
If you are using an external cron job, you can ignore this option as your cron job triggers the background jobs on your production site directly.
This feature was added to WP-Lister for Amazon in version 0.9.6.28.
